Buster Keaton
First robot ever built for the Karel Capek's play "RUR" in the 1920-ties. Czech writer invented the word, which is taken from slavic 'robota' - work.
Heroin - still as a cough medicine introduced by Bayer in 1895, when it was seen as non-addictive form of morphine. The name has been created from German "heroisch" (heroic), making the patient a brave person. It took some time before people realized how addictive it has been.
It has seemed certain in the 1930-ties that the next war will the gas war.
